The Chinese virus continued to charge victims and spread from the city of Wuhan to the western world. Two companies have already begun attempts to create a vaccine. So far, about 1,400 people infected in China and 56 have perished. This is all that is known so far about the mysterious virus.
The Chinese Coronavirus, also known as the nCov-2019, belongs to the Coronavirus family. This sub-strain is the seventh in this family known as infecting humans. It is estimated that the new viruses are created over the years due to genetic modification that makes them more durable and violent.
The name of the Coronavirus incidentally, like the other viruses in this group, is given due to the “crown” on the mantle, which contains various structures that help it penetrate the living cells.
The beginning of the epidemic, most likely, starts from animals to humans in the seafood and animal markets. Over time, it became clear that some of the infected did not visit the same market. That leads to the conclusion that the virus transmitted between humans. Indeed, epidemiologic tests have made clear: A person infected with the virus could pass the virus on to two to four people.
In the meantime, no one knows how long the virus can stay in the air or on the surfaces.
On the surface?
Is it possible the Chinese goods in our home carry the Coronavirus?
No one knows!
Therefore it is unclear whether one can be infected through contact with a contaminated area or from a person carrying the virus. The virus is probably less contagious than other viruses such as measles or influenza, as the infection rate is not as rapid as other pandemics. As a matter of principle, the infection is a drop, using saliva or runny nose that goes through sneezing or coughing.
The disease is usually manifested by mild and transient influenza-like symptoms, which include headache and weakness, runny nose, sore throat or cough, and muscle pain.
In some infections, the disease will also be accompanied by complications that include high fever, difficulty breathing, pneumonia, and sometimes blood and death infection.
The medical world still does not know how to deal with the mysterious Chinese virus. Every day, several infected, entire Chinese provinces are closed. Scans at airports around the world try to locate and isolate potential patients.
Here’s everything we know so far about the Chinese coronavirus disease:
The outbreak of the new corona-virus is causing great panic around the world, especially in China – where some 1,400 people have already infected, and 56 perished.
A potential patient who has been living in infected areas over 14 days, and has symptoms of the illness considered a potential carrier. The patient transported for isolation and laboratory tests for Coronavirus and other possible viruses.
Since antibiotics do not help, the treatment includes supervision, fluids, and in case of respiratory deterioration – providing preventative and respiratory medicines.
Two companies have already started the process of creating the vaccine, but this is a project that may take months. To create a vaccine, it is necessary to take viruses from infected people, isolate sections of the virus’s hereditary material, the R.N.A., and culture them in vast quantities. Another way is to culture the virus after it is killed and cannot cause the disease. Whatever the method, it is a lengthy production that, even if accelerated, will take at least two years
While the World Health Organization (W.H.O.) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said that “continue increase in cases & the evidence of human-to-human transmission outside of China are most alarming,” the direct risk of this virus to Americans is still considered low, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.).
The U.S. has time to be prepared for coronavirus, which is one reason why experts said Americans should not worry.
Adalja added, “If you give a virus a head start, and hide it amid flu season, it’s going to spread more rapidly,” describing the way coronavirus started spreading in China. But the C.D.C. is proactive from the beginning, setting up protocols to check people who are returning from China.
Travel limitations around the world and lockdowns in China may keep the virus in control or prevent it from spreading. In U.S. Airports, passengers from China are checked for the infection, and health officials decide whether it’s safe for them to enter to he country.
If you have planned to travel somewhere besides China, there’s no need to cancel.
People should still follow regular respiratory sanitation practices, like washing hands with water and soap for more than 10 seconds or using a hand sanitizer, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (C.D.C.) has suggested.
“Other viruses are circulating, so if you do get cold and flu-like symptoms, it’s more likely it’s going to be one of those viruses and not this novel coronavirus,” Adalja says. Flu activity is considered high in the U.S, and will likely continue for weeks, per the C.D.C.
Information is developing fast about coronavirus, so it’s wise to be alert & watch for any changes. “But currently, it’s not a major threat to the Americans,” said Adalja.
